Birthing Justice

Zanmi Zanmi offers pop-up community baby showers and maternal child and public health events for mothers, small children, and families who face abandonment under state austerity policies and racism, sexism, and criminalization in institutional medicine. Zanmi, Zanmi is piloting community baby showers in Roxbury, MA and Oakland, CA, in Summer and Fall 2025, welcoming diverse language speakers and offering food, free supplies, photography, activities, and connections with community partners. In October 2025, they will also launch Birth & Borders, an education and writing workshop on the intersections of border abolition and birthing justice, bringing together birthworkers, migrant justice advocates, and abolitionist organisers in Oakland, CA, with the goal publishing the first volume of a new Birth & Borders periodical.
