Honoring Elders

with Kibilio (Refuge) Community and Farm

Kibilio (Refuge) Community and Farm hosted Movement Elders Gather in Summer 2025, inviting elders from the prison abolition and Black Liberation movement to gather for a weekend of reflection, relaxation, community, and honor. These women, who have given decades of service to the struggle for a more just future, had time to gather in restful space outside urgent movement actions, experience being cared for and honored, and reflect on their life's work. At the end of the weekend, one of the elders asked their younger caregivers to stand in a circle facing outwards. The elders surrounded them facing inwards and moved around the circle giving them words of encouragement. They said that this was the passing of the torch
